    5/24 Meet Information

    EMC Eels Parents,

Thanks to everyone who joined us for bingo night last night — we LOVE this event! There is no practice tonight.

Friday we will have Kona Ice on the Lawn 5:15-7:15. Stop by for a snow cone to reward your swimmer for a great week and get pumped for our dual meet!

Saturday we are back at home hosting the Fall Creek Flying Fish. The schedule will be the same as our first home meet:

6:30 – Set up crew arrives

7:00 – Parents arrive and start setting up. We are sharing the parking lot with the Flying Fish, so take a look at the attached map for where EMC set up is. Swimmers check in with Aaron and Ken at the circle in table and receive your slip of paper with your events for the day. Text Aaron at 713-876-1930 with your swimmer name if you are running late. Write your swimmers’ names on their backs and their event numbers ONLY on their arms (heat and lane numbers often change, so adding those early in the meet causes a lot of confusion). Volunteers, check in with Brooke to get your volunteer badge.

    7:15 – Home team warmups

    7:45 – Visiting team warmups

7:50 – Listen to the announcer for a timers and scribes meeting.

8:15 – Shift One volunteers and events 1 & 2 are called to the ready bench.

    8:30 – Start the meet!

We do not know how long the meet will go, as this depends on how many swimmers show up, how fast each of those swimmers are, the number of volunteers we have, and how smoothly we make volunteer transitions.

    Volunteers

We still have a few spots open for second shift on Saturday, including Computers (air conditioning!), ready bench, and concessions.

    Meet Entries

Swimmers are allowed 3 individual events and 2 relays. Swimmers can only swim events they have been timed in. If your swimmer would like to start trying butterfly, breast, or IM events, talk to a board member or coach to get a time during practices.

    Relay Entries

We are allowed 3 relay teams if we have the numbers. Relay teams are computer-generated based on the current fastest swim times in each age group, so they may be adjusted each week based on each swimmer’s improved times. If your child is in a “C” relay, there is a chance that it will be scratched if we have to move kids around due to no shows. It’s important to let us know if you are not going to be at a meet or leave early so we can plan. For the MEDLEY RELAY, the number listed is the stroke they will do. A 1 is backstroke, 2 is breaststroke, 3 is butterfly, and 4 is freestyle. For FREESTYLE RELAY, everyone swims freestyle in the order they are listed. Please ask questions if you are unsure.

    Merchandise

Lore will be set up with meet essentials like goggles, bungee cords, and caps. Be sure to check out our car decals and other Eels gear. New this week is our RAISING CANE’S BASKET RAFFLE. Purchase raffle tickets for $5 each for a chance to win over $200 worth of fun Cane’s merch and food.

K&H Solutions will also be set up with fun swim family tshirts, tumblers, and hats.

    Concessions

We are thrilled to offer (even more!) Freddy’s breakfast tacos, Pat’s Donuts, and Raising Cane’s chicken tenders. We will also be selling popcorn this meet. We are welcoming EMC family-owned coffee cart El Nutty Bean back to the natatorium.

    Summer Champs

After EMC dominated at Shark Splash Invitational, we are excited to start registering swimmers for Summer Champs! This meet is Sunday, June 8 at Kingwood High School. Invitational meets are a great opportunity for swimmers to compete against other teams, earn medals, reach goals, and build team spirit. Qualifying times are posted at the natatorium and in the meet document. Use these times to help set goals for the next two dual meets. Families pay EMC Swim Team $7 for each individual event. The team pays for any relay teams we may be able to form. Please declare by May 31. Remember these meets are optional, points earned do not count toward season high point winners, and any timing assignment our team is given does not count toward your season volunteer requirement.

    Reminders:

For our team and the visiting team,

    • Please help us respect the property by making sure swimmers do not get in the landscaping or fountain and ensure everyone picks up after themselves.
    • Absolutely NO BALLS are allowed because there are lights over the courtyard, and windows around.
    • No one is allowed on the turf area.
    • No children should be in the elevators without a parent.
